Sometimes it brings up all the things you\u2019ve been running from: guilt, anxiety, racing thoughts. That\u2019s not a sign you\u2019re doing it wrong. It\u2019s a sign your nervous system doesn\u2019t know safety yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many, this starts in childhood. If you grew up in an unpredictable or emotionally unsafe environment, your nervous system learned to stay on high alert. This hypervigilance becomes second nature, and resting starts to feel unsafe &#8211; because stillness meant vulnerability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add people-pleasing to the mix &#8211; another survival strategy often rooted in childhood trauma &#8211; and the need to constantly &#8220;perform&#8221; or meet others&#8217; expectations becomes deeply ingrained.
